How is sex on a couch different from having sex on bed? What are the things i can keep in mind before having it with girlfriend so nothing is awkward?

Well for one you won’t have much space to work with really so you will have to manage that. You can use positions very effectively as your dick will most probably be on your girl as the couches are tight. Other than that it is normal.
